Dexter Shaw & The Wolftones
(with Big Creek Slim & Dawnette Fessey)
The Garibaldi LIVE is thrilled to be welcoming back Dexter Shaw and The Wolftones, with special guests Big Creek Slim and Dawnette Fessey.
Dexter is a veteran of the UK blues scene, playing old school blues rooted from the 40s/50s. Whether it be gritty Chicago blues, or uptown west coast style, his band nails it!
Dexter's vocals and guitar are engaging and authentic. He fronts a dynamite outfit, featuring Thomas Lucas on harp and keys, Francesca Shaw (his daughter) on double bass, and Loris Peverani on drums.
Born in the 1950's in London, Dexter started developing his love of blues and roots music from listening to his mother's rhythm & blues records. He acquired his first guitar at 11, when started busking on the street with some school friends in The San Francisco Bay Jug Band outside pubs and working men's clubs. At 18, he got a job as a sound engineer for Doctor Feelgood.
After 10 years of touring, he picked up his guitar again and hooked up with his childhood friend Steve "West" Weston, who was playing the local gigs circuit. In the 1980's and 1990's he became a fixture in the buzzing London scene, playing double bass or guitar with some of the finest blues guys around - Big Joe Louis and His Blues Kings, King David Purdy, Jeremiah Marquez, Gordon Smith and Little George Sueref. He formed Dexter Shaw & the Wolf Tones in the late '90's
A life long passion for the blues has made Big Creek Slim, aka. Marc Rune, one of the most authentic and promising Danish blues acts of this generation. A look at Big Creeks résumé illustrates his high esteem amongst the blues community, having played with prominent bluesmen like Mick Taylor and Omar and the Howlers, as well as featuring on American and Brazilian recordings, including the legendary Henry Gray (Howlin’ Wolf).
During his career, he has been the recipient of various award and nominations. In 2008 Big Creek won the Moeblomania Blues Award with 70% of the votes.
While being deeply inspired by the early delta and Mississippi blues artists like Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Elmore James and Robert Nighthawk, Big Creek Slim has his very own distinct take on the blues. It has to be dirty, authentic, and heartfelt. No compromises can be made in the process. His unique sound is a product of a devoted man’s journey through the southern states of America, including Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana, combined with a life long love affair with the blues.
Dawnette Fessey (aka A No Good Woman) sings her blues sassy, swinging & soulful, from the Delta to Chicago, Bessie to BB King.... Big Momma to Little Walter. Dawnette's been singing ever since she can remember..... with a number of bands and musicians over the years. This gal knows what she’s about - sassy, strong, sexy, spicy & sweet, without apology. So when you come to hear her sing, you better be ready!
