Dave Jones 'FunkAffinity’ with bassist Dave Jones leading this super funky line up featuring some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians including Brandon Allen (sax)Mark Ridout (guitar) and Sophie Alloway (drums). This concert with explore Dave's’ arrangements of classic jazz funk, latin, jazz fusion and original music.

Expect a dynamic performance steeped in the blues and soul with spacious grooves, blistering highs and improvising of the highest level with tunes from Airto Morriera, Herbie Hancock, Steve Wonder, Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius and one or two originals penned by Dave himself.

Dave's bass playing in recent years has included his own group Dave Jones Nonet, Hejira - a Tribute to Joni Mitchell, Ronnie Scott’s Soul and Jazz Orchestra, Pete Cater Big Band, Way Out West Jazz Collective, Stefanos Tsourelis Trio, Tom Seals, Brandon Allen, Jeremy Sassoon and Julian Costello. He has played with some of the finest jazz musicians in the UK such as Pete Long, Jacqui Dankworth, Frank Griffith and John Etheridge and with visiting American artists such as Howard Levy. He has played alongside drummers Steve Gadd and Keith Carlock and he is active in jazz education teaching regularly at Richmond Jazz School and International Summer Schools.

Dave’s groups draw upon some of the finest jazz players in the UK and the rhythm section for this super group features the great jazz and blues playing of Mark Ridout on guitar who with Dave also teaches on the Loire International Jazz Summer school. On drums we welcome the return of the wonderful Sophie Alloway on drums whose debut at the Garibaldi in December with FunkAffinity was a highlight for all present, her sensitivity on drums is equally matched by her power and groove. Brandon Allen on tenor sax is widely regarded as one of the most expressive and powerful players in the UK and we are super fortunate he can fit this gig into his international schedule of work.

Collectively this wonderful group of musicians represent some of the finest and most versatile musicians on the scene.
