Mark Nightingale is an English jazz trombonist, composer, and arranger. He began playing trombone at age nine, and has since gone on to perform and/or record with some of the world's most iconic singers of the last century, including Frank Sinatra, Henry Mancini, Paul McCartneyMichel Le Grand, Tony BennetPeggy Lee, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Julie Andrews, James Galway, Steely Dan, Sting, Kylie Minogue, Cher, Robbie Williams, Tom Jones, Tina Turner, Take That, Eric Clapton,  Westlife, Pet Shop Boys, Blur, McFly, Wet Wet Wet, The Spice Girls, Elton JohnRay Brown, Clark Terry, James Morrison, Cleo Laine, John Dankworth, Kenny Wheeler, Stan Tracey, George Shearing, Georgie Fame, Mike Davies, Charlie Watts, Bill Frisell, BBC Big Band, etc. etc. .... phew! Career

He began on trombone at age nine, and played in the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in his teens. After attended Trinity College of Music from 1985 to 1988, his first band as leader was a trombone quintet called Bonestructure. Since then, he has gone on to front various sized groups from quartets and quintets to a big band featuring his own compositions and arrangements. Nightingale toured and recorded with James Morrison in Europe from 1994 to 1997. He has had longstanding musical relationships with John Dankworth, Stan Tracey, Alan Barnes and Andy Panayi. Nightingale composed for trombone and other brass instruments, his published works include 20 Jazz Etudes (1995), Multiplicity (1996) Easy Jazzy Tudes (1998), Turning Back the Clock (2004), and Urbieplicity (2010). He played trombone on the album Ten Summoner's Tales by Sting.

Mark performs as a soloist and in several groups and bands including:- The Mark Nightingale Quintet, The Mark Nightingale Big Band, The Sound of J&K, The Andy Panayi Quartet.

Mark also provides bespoke arrangements and undertakes writing commissions. His compositions have been featured at international trombone festivals across the world, and also a great deal with the BBC Big Band, with whom he has occasionally been a guest conductor over the years. Cleo Laine was so taken with his composition Just Once More that she put lyrics to it and recorded it live at Carnegie Hall.
