Butcher's Brew
Ray Butcher is a jazz trumpeter who has played jazz with many of the greats from the UK scene. He’s worked with Dr John, Mica Paris and recorded a solo on the song ‘God’s Great Dance Floor’ from the US chart topping and GRAMMY nominated release by Chris Tomlin ‘Burning Lights’.
Ray will be joined on stage by a great band from the Birmingham area. Drummer Miles Levin, studied at the Guildhall, is the the son of the Tony Levin- who played regularly with Tubby Hayes. Tim Amann, who studied History at Cambridge, is a composer and leader himself and has played with Art Farmer and David Murray among others. Bassist Grant Russell has performed with many big names and is very much in demand around the Manchester area and beyond. Ed Kainyek (sax) is a brilliant improviser and has worked with many influential musicians over a long period and brings a great warmth to the band. He is big on the Manchester and Leeds scene like Grant.
The band will be playing a mix of jazz, funk, blue note and Latin music.
Note: Tim, Ray and Sam performed a similar set on a couple of tours to Moscow and St Petersburg in 2007 and 2010 at the Union of Composers’ Club.
