Sonia Santana is a multifaceted Spanish singer and performer recognized for her vibrant career spanning pop music, theatrical performance, and jazz influences. Emerging as the third lead vocalist of the celebrated pop group Olé Olé in 1992, she recorded the band’s final album Al Descubierto, which featured notable singles and earned a Gold Record following a successful tour.
After Olé Olé’s dissolution, Santana pursued a solo career and diversified her artistic endeavors. Beyond her work in pop, Sonia Santana has established a solid presence in theatre, starring in productions such as La bahía de Los Isletas, Reyes que Amaron Como Reinas, and Zaguán, where she combined her musical and dramatic talents to critical acclaim.
In 2004, she released Havana Dreams, an album recorded in Havana, Cuba for Sony Classical/Odyssey, paying homage to classic Cuban songs from the mid-20th century.
Sonia has expanded her international collaborations by working with Japanese artist Jazztronik on his album Carnival Rock, contributing her distinctive vocals to the project.
Additionally, she partnered with the group Vertente, appearing as a featured artist on their singles Chuva and Tanto Tempo, further demonstrating her versatility and ability to engage with a wide range of musical genres and cultures.
In 2016, under the artistic persona Arlette Yun, she released an album featuring songs in multiple languages, with Soy as its lead single. That year also saw her re-join Olé Olé for a duet on their reunion album Sin Control.
More recently, Sonia expanded her artistic scope into the jazz and world music scenes, notably with the project Manouches, which blends Gypsy jazz influences with her powerful vocal delivery and theatrical flair. This project reflects her passion for diverse musical
traditions and improvisational styles.
In February 2025, Santana made a celebrated return to the international live music stage with Twilight of Gods at London’s prestigious Crazy Coqs venue. The show combined jazz and blues elements and garnered praise for its expressive performance and musical sophistication, marking a significant milestone in her evolving career.
Santana continues to dedicate herself to artistic reinvention, balancing intimate theatrical productions, solo musical projects, and collaborations that highlight her broad versatility and enduring presence in Spain’s and Europe’s contemporary music and theatre scenes.
